Red Fort

Srinagar, Kashmir

Sunset, winter, at one of the many bridges of Srinagar, capital of the medieval city of Kashmir. The central mosque is on the left and the fort sits on the peak on the right. Behind are the snow-covered Himalayas. Below are houseboats suspended on the river.

S. KOUL writes:

This bridge is called Fateh-Kadal. 'Kadal' in Kashmiri language means bridge. The central mosque is in fact tomb of great muslim saint called 'Shah-i-Hamdan' who had come from Persia to Kashmir. There is a small shrine dedicated to Hindu goddes 'Kali' located near it. The fort on the hill was built by Mughal rulers of India in 17th Century. (I happened to live in this area till 1990.)
