In a high-altitude meadow near Kolahoi glacier, shepherds gather drinking and cooking water from an ice cold stream. Semi-nomadic herders spend their summers tending their goat and sheep flocks on the lush, shortlived grass.

I was at a gem and mineral show in Costa Mesa, CA. when I found a merchant from Pakastan selling quartz crystals from the Kashmir mountains. He said they mine them at the 16 thousand feet elevation. letting them go over a cliff in snow to tumble to the bottom where they could transport them to the train station for export.
