In the Japan alps the traditional arts still linger. This village features many gasso houses -- huge four-story A-frames farmhouses, covered in thatch. The steep roofs shed the large snowfalls of this region. Traditionally the top flour would be used for silk-worm raising.

I too walked here, just in high summer where the grass is greener than you can imagine. That loan farm house still stands there: in the summer, however, bright orange flowers bloom around it. It was a hot and tiring walk, but oh, what a sight.
