Horse traffic
Balkh, Afghanistan
Once called the "mother of cities" Balkh is now untidy ruins of mud. Farmers still eke out a subsistance livelihood on farms built around the ruins. Here famers head back to their homesteads after a day in town buying supplies like rice, sugar, and green tea.

I saw a Bushkazi tournament within the old city walls of Balkh. The city must have been huge, but then just large mounds. The hundred of horsemen rode throughout the interior plain, while the audience sat upon the eroded city walls, -- a dirt bikers's heaven.
